Hallo,

Please excuse the English but mijn nederland is heel slecht. Next week I pick up my RHD RX-8 PZ in the UK to bring over to the Netherlands and register it for use here. Is there any other RHD RX-8 owner on the forum and if so how did you convert the xenon headlights?

Cheers

Paddy

No idea.....maybe try and find a demolished car for parts...

And try the 'commercieel' section over here :)

Welcome and enjoy!

In regards to your headlights, I don't know but like faxie stated "commercieel" can be helpfull or specialist sites.

Cheers,

Roland

If anybody is interested I will put an importing guide for RX-8 from the UK when I finished importing mine (English paperwork has error on vin number so this is taking longer than planned). Also be aware dutch scrap yards are selling English headlights even when you give European part numbers, these are cheaper but are illegal for use on European roads, don't ask me how I know!!

Thanks for your warning!

Hi paddy, what did you end up doing with your headlights to get them legal for Europe? If you are still looking for a good and affordable solution, I had mine fixed by stripping the entire thing and placing/removing (don't remember), but at least playing around with a bit of metal to get the left side down. This saved me over 2500 euros the dealer wanted to charge me for a pair of new headlights!

Sailed right trough the RDW test after that :-)

I saved money with the DIY solution by baking the headlights. First I stripped my headlights down and put them in the oven using the instruction from this thread http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=213651 and then flipped the piece of metal on the inside see http://bridgetogantry.com/2/index.php/projectrx81/projectrx8/420-how-i-put-my-uk-track-car-on-to-german-plates but instead of cutting the locating pin I drilled a hole in the metal. Put them back together with extra silicon sealer and refitted. Got them check at kwik fit they were concerned by two spots of light which I have later found are for lighting up road signs. I have had them check at the RDW already and they passed the technical inspection. Now am waiting for the updated paperwork from the UK before paying the BPM and putting on Nederlands number plate.

Nicely done! Will have surely saved you another 200 euros or so, I didnt feel confident enough doing it myself, how hard/easy was it?
- Van paddy187 (Deelnemer) [nl] op 29-06-2012 20:06
Not to hard just need to be patient when baking the light, at first when you open up you think you are damaging it but after that it is relatively straight forward. The biggest issue is getting a large enough oven. All in all I would say it took 60-90mins per headlight.

I want to clean my headlights as there are some slight condensation marks on the inside.
Do you think it's necessary to open the headlights for this job?

Grtz Dennis.

I would take the headlight off the car and try to get at the parts you need to clean through the side lights or main beam lights holes. It may be a bit tricky but I think with common sense and some home made tools, i.e. an old wire coat hanger, you can do this without baking the headlight. good luck and let me know how it goes.

Good idea, that makes the trouble a lot less indeed!

Ok car has passed it test, English paperwork had a typo, BPM paid now the wait for the number plates to be issued. All in all I think I saved  about 1/3 on NL price without assuming lower price due to RHD. I think I could save more now I have worked so things out, i.e. no extra headlights. Other than the headlights it relatively simple and well worth it. I have been driving LHD cars for the last 5 years and the switch is fairly simple for me, other than having to reversing in to my work car park!, I also have a LHD oldtimer so that will keep me on my toes!

]Now with dutch plates, finally! Just need to fix them to the car!
